Fabric Requirements: Nickel = 5" square Dime = 10" square
White: ........ (4) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Yellow: .... (8) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
(1) Nickel - draw a diagonal line on wrong side
Aqua:........ (1) Nickel
(2) Nickels -------- or (7) 2 1/2" squares
Cut (4) 2 1/2" squares from each of these 2 nickels- you will use 7
Raspberry:..(3) Nickels ------ or (10) 2 1/2" squares
cut (4) 2 1/2" squares from each nickel - you will use 10
Sewing Instructions:
Make 4-Patches by sewing
(2) 2 1/2" Aqua and (2) 2 1/2" Raspberry squares together, as shown:

Your unit should measure 4 1/2"
Make Half Square Triangles (HST) by placing (1) 5" Yellow Nickel on top of (1) Aqua Nickel, right sides together. Stitch 1/4" on each side of drawn line. Cut apart on line, and press to Aqua. Square up to 4 1/2"
Sew (1) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Yellow strip to the right side of 4-Patch, as shown:
Sew (1) 2 1/2" Aqua square to one end of (1) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Yellow strip, as shown:
Sew this unit to the bottom of 4-patch unit, as shown. Press to 4-patch.
Sew (1) 2 1/2" Raspberry square to one end of (1) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Yellow strip
Sew (1) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Yellow Strip to the left side of HST, as shown:
Sew this strip to bottom of HST unit. Press to HST unit.
Sew (1) 2 1/2" Raspberry Square to the end of (1) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" White strip.
Your block should measure 14 1/2" unfinished
Check back on April 1, 2009 for Block 2.
If you would like to have more fun with this block, try this setting. It's 4 blocks x 4 rows, and the block is rotated every other one. With a narrow border it is 60" x 60" - perfect throw - and easy, too!
