DARK BLUE:..............(24) 3 7/8" squares
LIGHT BLUE:...............(6) 7 1/4" squares
GOLD:....(4) 2 1/2" x 10 1/2"
(4) 2 1/2" x 12 1/2"
Sew (2) 4-Patch units together, then sew (1) White/Red strip Next, sew (1) 4-patch, (1) Quick Corner unit from previous clue,
unit on end, as shown. and (1) "X" unit as shown:
Sew (1) Red/White strip unit, (1) "Y" unit, & (1) 2 1/2" BW-HST unit together, being careful of rotation and placement of units.
Join rows as shown below:
Using same method as above, make a similar block - NOTICE THE ROTATION OF 4-PATCHES & Red/White unit.
Sew (1) 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" GOLD strip to the side of above "U" Sew (1) 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" GOLD strip to side of "W" block, and
and (1) 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" GOLD strip to the top, as shown: (1) 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" GOLD strip to top, as shown:
Join above 4 blocks, rotating blocks as shown:
Cutting Instructions for Clue #5
RED:.....(24) 3 1/2" squares
DK BLUE:....(2) 3 1/2" squares
WHITE:....(2) 3 1/2" squares
Make Flying Geese units by placing (2) 3 7/8" DARK BLUE squares on (1) 7 1/4" LIGHT BLUE square, right sides together
(squares will overlap slightly). Draw a diagonal line from top left corner to bottom right. Stitch a scant 1/4" on each side
of line, cut apart on line, and press to Dark Blue.
Next place (1) 3 7/8" DARK BLUE square on unit, draw diagonal line, and stitch a scant 1/4" on each side of line.
Cut apart on line, and press to Dark Blue.. One 7 1/4" Light Blue square and four 3 7/8" Dark Blue squares will
yield 4 Flying Geese.
Your Flying Geese unit should measure 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"
