Cutting Instructions:

                   (16) 4 1/4" squares                                                                             (1)  3 1/2" x 4"

                   (1)   2" square                                                                                    (1)  1" x 9 1/2"

                   (3)   2" x 5 1/2"                                                                                   (2)  3 1/2" x 15 1/2"

                   (1)   2" x 3 1/2"                                                                                   (1)  2" x 4 1/2" 

                   (2)   2" x 2 1/2"                                                                                   (1)  2" x 2 1/2"

                   (2)   2" x 5"                                                                                       (24)  3" squares

                   (2)   2" x 4 1/2"

                 

Make HST's by placing (1) 4 1/2" RED square on top of (1) 4 1/2" BLUE square, right sides together.  Sew 1/4" on each side

of drawn line.  Cut apart on line, and press to Blue.          No need to square up.                LABEL:  "D"

Make 16

Place (1) 4 1/4" BLUE square on top of "D" unit.  Draw a diagonal line, opposite of the direction of seam in "D" unit.

Sew 1/4" on both sides of line, cut apart, and press to Blue large triangle.    Square up 3 1/2"                         LABEL: "M"

Make 32

Sew (1) 2" BLUE square to one end of (1) 2" x 4" GOLD strip

Make 1

Sew above unit between (2) 2" x 5 1/2" BLUE strips, as shown:

Sew (1) 2" x 3 1/2" BLUE strip to (1) 3 1/2" x 4" GOLD strip as shown:                        Sew (1) 2" x 5 1/2" BLUE strip to bottom of unit

Sew your two sections above together                               Sew (1) 1" x 9 1/2" GOLD strip to side, as shown:

to make "S BLOCK", as shown:

Sew (1) 2" x 2 1/2" GOLD strip between (2)  2" x 2 1/2" BLUE strips                        Sew (1) 2" x 5" BLUE strip on top of unit, as shown:

Sew (1) 2" x 4 1/2" GOLD strip between (2) 2" x 4 1/2" BLUE strips                Sew (1) 2" x 5" BLUE strip to top of unit

Make 1

Sew your units together to make an "A-BLOCK", as shown                          Sew your "U", "S", and "A" blocks together, as shown

Sew (1) 3 1/2" x 15 1/2" GOLD strip to top and bottom of USA block.     Your block should measure 15 1/2"

Make 1

Make HST's placing (1) 3" WHITE square on top of (1) 3" GOLD square, right sides together.  Sew 1/4" on each side of drawn line,

cut apart on line, and press to GOLD.                             Square up to 2 1/2"
