Sew a 3 ½” WHITE square on each side of the HST “X”, as shown:

Sew a HST “X” to each side of a 3 ½” BLUE square, as shown:

Assemble your BLUE Friendship Star as shown:

Frame you Blue Friendship Star by sewing a 2” x 9 ½” strip on each side. Next sew a 2” x 12 ½” strip to top and bottom of block.      Your block should measure 12 ½”

Sew a 2 ½” x 6” RED strip on each side of a 5 ½” x 6” WHITE strip, as shown:

Next sew a 2” x 8"  WHITE strip to a 2 ½” x 8” RED square as shown.  Subcut  to into 2 ½" units.

Make 3

Place a 3” x 3” WHITE square on top of a 4” x 4” RED square, right sides together. Sew on diagonal line, trim seam allowance to ¼”, flip and press.

Repeat in opposite corner with 2” x 2” square.

Assemble your Alphabet Letter “U” as shown:

Frame your Alphabet Letter “U” by sewing a 2” x 9 ½” BLUE strip on each side of “U” Block.

Next sew a 2” x 12 ½” BLUE strip on top and bottom of block.

Your block should measure 12 ½”.

Make 3

Using the 2 ½” x WOF RED and WHITE Strips, sew together as shown, and subcut into

Into (3) 12 ½” x 12 ½” units.   Make 2 strip sets.

Make 5

(You will have one left over unit that would make a nice quilt label)

Assemble your flag as shown below:
