QOV Mystery Three          YARDAGE       Clue #4
QOV Mystery Three       Clue #4

You will use your 3 ½” and 1 ¾” WOF strips for this clue.
Subcut your WOF strips into the following:
                   Red..... (6) 16”
                               (12)  9”
                   Blue….(12)  11”
                  White..(12)  14”
                               (12)   6 ½”

If you do not have 11”square paper, tape (2) 8 ½’ X 11” sheets of copy paper together, then trim to 11” x 11”.   HINT:  I use Scotch brand removable tape, as it does not gum up my needle. If you’d like to overlap your pages, and glue them, then after glue has dried cut them to 11” x 11”, that will work also.

After cutting your 11” square, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on BOTH sides of your paper, using same corners. Next crease your 3 ½” x 16” RED strip lengthwise with an iron (do not press hard, just enough to see your crease line).

Open up your 3 ½” x 16” creased strip and place the crease along the diagonal line you drew on your paper, right side UP.  Pin in place.

Next lay (1)  1 ¾”  x 14” WHITE strip, right sides together, on top of the RED strip, aligning raw edges as shown. (leave at least ½” extending over edge of paper square).  Place another 1 ¾” WHITE strip on the opposite side of the RED strip, again aligning raw edges.  Sew ¼” seams along both raw edges.
SET YOUR STITCH LENGTH AT 1.6 or 1.8
Next flip back and press.
Continue sewing 1 ¾” strips to each side, flipping  back and pressing. You should use this sequence:
       Red 3 ½”
       White 1 ¾”
       Blue 1 ¾’
       Red 1 ¾”
       White 3 ½”

Your finished Strip block should look like this:

Flip the block over, and trim the block, using the paper as your guide.
Make 6
Your finished block. Leave the paper on.
Next place a 11”x11” BLUE square, right sides together with your strip block.  Make Half Square Triangles (HST) by sewing ¼” on each side of the drawn line on your paper.  Cut apart on the drawn line.
                                                   Make 12 HST blocks

Square your blocks to 10 ½” using your middle diagonal seam as guide.

Remove paper AFTER blocks have been sewn into the top in following clue(s).
